Meghan Markle Tried Hard To Fit Into The Royal Family, Says ‘Finding Freedom’ Writers
KEY POINTS
- Harry and Meghan failed to understand why "so few inside the palace were looking out for their interests"
- They stepped back from their senior roles after months of friction with the members of the royal family
- The couple felt the members of the Royal Family were patronizing them
The authors of the new tell-all on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have said that the Duchess of Sussex tried to fit into the royal family before she and her husband took the decision to leave the Royal Family.
The first excerpt of "Finding Freedom: Harry, Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family," was released in the Times. It stated that the couple took the decision to step back from their senior roles after months of friction with the members of the royal family.
The writers, Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, said the couple failed to understand why "so few inside the palace were looking out for their interests."
"While they both respected the hierarchy of the institution, it was difficult when they wanted to focus on a project and were told that a more senior ranking family member, be it Prince William or Prince Charles, had an initiative or tour being announced at the same time—so they would just have to wait," the authors wrote.
The book also reveals that the couple was so popular that the palace "establishment" felt they were eclipsing them.
"As their popularity had grown, so did Harry and Meghan’s difficulty in understanding why so few inside the palace were looking out for their interests. There were just a handful of people at the palace they could trust," the authors wrote.
According to the sources, the couple felt the members of the Royal Family were patronizing them. Their stepping down "was a direct result of their growing impatience."
"If other members of the family and those working with the households had taken their requests more seriously, it wouldn’t have reached that point," the authors wrote.
The book will be released Aug. 11. A spokesperson of the couple said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not involved in the book.
"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not interviewed and did not contribute to ‘Finding Freedom.’ This book is based on the authors’ own experiences as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting," the spokesperson said.
