Meghan Markle’s 4 Biggest Scandals Of 2020
Meghan Markle has been a topic of conversation in British news and tabloids ever since she and Prince Harry started dating, and then even more when they wed. The two are now living their own lives between California and England with no stresses of the royals, but the scandals haven't quite fled the scene yet. These are the Duchess of Sussex's biggest scandals of 2020:
Meghan and Prince Harry Announce Their Departure From The Royal Family
Meghan and Harry shocked the world when they announced they were taking a “step back” from the royal family on Jan. 8, something that the family never experienced before. The two finished their duties as royalty when they attended the Commonwealth Day service in March and then they were off to live a more private life.
They lost their titles of as well as His/Her Royal Highness, but they have been allowed to keep their status as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Losing the two meant the royal family became vulnerable, Richard Fitzwilliams told Express. Meghan made history by being the first biracial-American to enter the family and was a huge advocate for women’s rights. She helped the royal family seem more modern.
Meghan's Cemetery Photo Op On Remembrance Day
The couple took a visit to the Los Angeles National Cemetery on Remembrance Day in November, which turned into a huge photo-op scandal that Meghan’s estranged sister, Samantha Markle, thought was wrong.
Meghan and Prince Harry took photos with the graves in the cemetery, which rubbed many people the wrong way. It seemed as though they were taking the limelight and spotlight away from the importance of the day.
The Couple's $150 Million Netflix Deal
In September, the two signed a deal with Netflix for $150 million to produce scripted series, documentaries and family programs. This caused a stir because some believed she only has some experience in the industry and he has none.
Others believed they might have been starting a reality TV show, but that’s not the case. Some also want to make sure they genuinely care about these programs and aren’t just in it for the money.
It’s said that the royal family is concerned about the couple exploiting secrets or scandals on their Netflix creations.
Meghan and Prince Harry's Political Messages
It’s no secret that Meghan is not a fan of President Donald Trump. In 2016, she name called him, which caused a rift between the two that still stands to this day. She and Prince Harry both have said various things about President Trump, but they’ve also been huge advocates for voting in the U.S.
They made an appearance, virtually, on ABC on National Voter Registration Day and at the When Women Vote Conference. They talked about how important it is to vote, along with a few other things.
Meghan said, “Every four years we are told the same thing: that this is the most important election of our lifetime. But this one is. When we vote, our values are put into action and our voices are heard. Your voice is a reminder that you matter, because you do, and you deserve to be heard.”
This apparently was a breach in the royal protocol for the two to discuss politics, according to Insider. However, with the two no longer working for the Royal Family, it seems to be a gray area.
