Meghan Markle is believed to have given her estranged dad, Thomas Markle Sr., a sweet nod with the name that she chose for her son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

One of Markle’s close friends told The Sun that it was Thomas that introduced the Duchess of Sussex to the comic book character Archie Andrews from the “Archie” comics. While growing up in the United States, the “Suits” alum became obsessed with the ginger-haired character.

“She would spend her weekends going to vintage stores to buy the comics. This could be a little nod to her dad… It was him who instilled that hobby into her, that was their activity together,” Markle’s friend said.

Markle’s pal also said that Thomas usually drove the Duchess of Sussex around and he would surprise her with vintage volumes of the comic books. Markle is believed to have at least 100 “Archie” comics.

The Duchess of Sussex’s friend thinks that choosing the name Archie for Markle’s son was her way of reaching out to Thomas even though they are not on speaking terms at the moment.

And even though Thomas has not yet met his grandson, he released a statement to the publication after Archie’s birth. He said that he’s delighted to know that his daughter safely delivered her firstborn child.

“I am proud that my new grandson is born into the British royal family and I am sure that he will grow up to serve the crown and the people of Britain with grace, dignity, and honor. God bless the child and I wish him health and happiness, and my congratulations to my lovely daughter Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry, and God save the Queen,” Thomas said in his statement.

Thomas was cut out of Markle and Prince Harry’s lives after he posed for a series of fake photographs ahead of the royal couple’s wedding last year. He has also been conducting interviews with the media that Markle disapproves of.
