  • Meghan Markle can run for president in 15 to 20 years

Meghan Markle’s ultimate goal is reportedly to become the president of the United States. And this could be why she didn’t want to let go of her American citizenship.

A source told New Idea that Prince Harry’s wife is convinced that she’s got what it takes to run the country effectively because of her experiences and background.

“Now, with the world climate as it is today, she sees it as a total reality and something to work towards,” the source said.

Even though it is best to take the claims made by the tabloid with a grain of salt, it is quite similar to what royal expert Phil Dampier said. He said that there have been signs that running or becoming president is Markle’s ultimate goal.

“It’s significant that she never went through with getting her British citizenship and maybe at the back of her mind she wanted to make sure that she remained an American citizen, which would enable her to one day become president,” he told the tabloid.

And if Markle really decides to launch her political career, she could get the support of A-list figures like Oprah Winfrey and George and Amal Clooney in her corner. Markle has been friends with Winfrey for years, and she became friends with the Clooneys through Prince Harry.

“Oprah’s made it very clear she doesn’t want to run for office herself … but she’d love nothing more than to throw her support behind Meghan if she decides to throw her hat into the political arena. [Meghan’s also] recently been encouraging George to run for mayor or governor in Los Angeles,” Dampier said.

As of late, Markle has not explicitly expressed her desire to run for president. But in January, rumors also became rife that she could make the shocking move.

While speaking LBC, crisis management expert Mark Borkowsky said that there’s no stopping the Duchess of Sussex from running for office. However, this may not happen until the next 15 to 20 years.
