Meghan Markle’s Wedding Dress Designer Received Another Major Honor
Designer Clare Waight Keller is known for being the designer behind Meghan Markle’s wedding dress, and now she is receiving another major honor. She is on Time’s 100 most influential people list.
The Givenchy artistic director was revealed as part of the list Wednesday. Oscar winner Julianne Moore wrote a tribute to the fashion maven, and of course, The Duchess of Sussex was mentioned.
“Clare’s simple wedding gown for Meghan Markle was exactly that — a reflection of the lovely and modern young woman who just happens to be a 21st century princess,” Moore wrote in her piece for Time. “The world gasped when they saw that bride, and everyone wanted to know who had made that dress.”
While Meghan didn’t have a part in this particular tribute, she honored Keller late last year. The Duchess of Sussex presented Keller with Womenswear Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards in December. She took the stage to tell audiences about working with Keller.
“As all of you in this room know, we have a deep connection to what we wear,” Meghan said (via Town and Country). “Sometimes it’s very personal, sometimes it’s emotional. But for me, this connection is rooted in really being able to understand that it’s about supporting and empowering each other, especially as women. When we choose to wear a certain designer, we’re not just a reflection of their creativity and their vision but we’re also an extension of their values of something in the fabric so to speak that is much more meaningful.”
She went on to express how happy she was to present the honor to her wedding dress designer. “I feel especially proud to announce tonight’s winner who, yes, is a British designer leading on the global stage with vision and creativity but also with incredible kindness, which is why when I met her for the first time 11 months ago, I knew that we'd be working very closely together. The winner this evening is Clare Waight Keller,” the Duchess said.
