Melania Trump Cancels California Fundraising Event After Keeping Mum On Coronavirus Outbreak, Blames Schedule

Melania Trump canceled a fundraising event amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The First Lady of the United States was initially set to join a fundraising event, but she decided to withdraw from it. White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said in a text that the FLOTUS would not be holding a fundraiser in Beverly Hills, California on March 18 due to a “scheduling conflict,” Politico reported.

Melania’s decision comes amid the growing concerns over coronavirus and after she kept mum on the issue on one of her outings. On Tuesday, Melania attended the National PTA Legislative Conference as schools work to contain the outbreak. Coronavirus was among the agenda at the event. However, the FLOTUS didn’t mention COVID-19 when she delivered her speech. Instead, Melania opted to focus on the success of her Be Best campaign.

Melania's fundraising event was supposed to be held in Los Angeles. The county has already declared a state of emergency. President Donald Trump said in one of his tweets that the fake news media and Democrats were trying to “inflame” the coronavirus outbreak and the news reports were exaggerated.

“The Fake News Media and their partner, the Democrat Party, is doing everything within its semi-considerable power (it used to be greater!) to inflame the CoronaVirus situation, far beyond what the facts would warrant. Surgeon General, ‘The risk is low to the average American,’” Trump wrote.

The netizens reacted and questioned why Melania canceled her trip if the COVID-19 outbreak wasn’t that serious. One online user didn’t believe that the real reason was conflict of schedule while another asked Melania to cancel everything the first family does because they don’t need the Trumps.

“Dear Melania...do us all a favor and cancel EVERYTHING. You're a disgrace to our country and so is your disgusting family. AMERICA HATES YOU,” @truman6568 added.

In another post on Twitter, the POTUS compared coronavirus to the common flu. He noted that over 37,000 Americans died from the common flu and nothing was shut down compared to coronavirus with only 22 deaths, implying that it is not that serious.
