The Hollywood glitterati converged on New York City Monday night to showcase their killer style at the 2016 Met Gala -- aka the Oscars of fashion. The theme of the evening was Manus x Machina — which is meant to cross the increasingly blurred lines between handmade haute couture and machine-made fashions.
Each year celebrities fortunate enough to receive a highly coveted invite try to top one another with their take on the theme. Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Beyoncé , Sarah Jessica Parker and Rihanna (who was not able to attend due to tour schedule conflicts) are renowned for their standout looks — both good and bad. This year stars embraced the theme by sporting metallic gowns, seemingly robotic accessories, and more. While some totally crushed it, others could have used a second opinion.
Below are the best and worst looks from the 2016 Met Gala red carpet :
BEST: Ciara stunned in silver from her hair to her toes at the 2016 Met Gala. The H&M gown was covered in Swarovski crystals, which the singer told Snapchat users forced her to do a lot of standing throughout the night.

WORST: Katy Perry is known for being daring with her style. In fact, the singer told Snapchat on Monday that she decided to bleach her eye brows just 20 minutes before the big event despite the warnings of her style team. Unfortunately her black and gold gown was as unpopular, if not more, than her brows with viewers.

BEST: We would be remiss to exclude Anna Wintour — the master of ceremonies at the 2016 Met Gala — from our list. Naturally, she nailed it in the floor-length Chanel gown. Some considered it safe — we just found it chic.

WORST: While we applaud Madonna for being daring with her fashion choices, this one should have been a hard pass. The award winning singer dropped jaws by bearing it all in this sheer little number.

BEST: This gown got mixed reviews from fans — some of whom went as far as to suggest it looked like a nasty rash — but we all know Beyoncé can do no wrong. The queen of the Met Gala stole the show yet again in this latex Givenchy gown.

WORST: While we loved Kristen Stewart’s Met Gala hair, her dress just wasn’t doing it for us.

BEST: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West totally crushed the theme during the 2016 Met Gala (Though we'd love to know what host Anna Wintour thought of his decision to wear jeans). The couple stole the show with their detail-filled metallic looks.

WORST: Katie Holmes stepped on the Met Gala red carpet sporting a floor-length Zac Posen gown with her long black locks pin straight and few accessories. Unfortunately her look was more frumpy than sleek.

BEST: Actress Amber Heard stunned in this silky champagne dress at the Met Ball.

WORST: Will. I. Am.turned heads for all the wrong reasons at the 2016 Met Gala on Monday.

BEST: Hannah Davis and Derek Jeter were among the best dressed couples on the Met Gala red carpet on Monday. Davis flashed her flawless figure and long tan legs in a Zuhair Murad gown while the former New York Yankee donned a sleek black suit.

WORST: Lately Lady Gaga has been stearing clear of the strange in favor of high fashion. During the 2016 Met Gala — held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City — she reverted to her old ways, arriving in a bedazzled body suit sporting voluminous and messy blonde hair, fishnet tights and platform boots.

BEST: Actress Claire Danes arrived at the 2016 Met Gala in the perfect marriage of technology and fashion — a light up Zac Posen gown. The dress was, of course, one of the most talked about of the night and earned it's rightful spot on many a best dressed list.

WORST: Bette Midler nailed the Manus x Machina theme at the Met Ball, but failed fashion-wise in this black and silver custom Marc Jacobs gown.

BEST: Jennifer Hudson served up bridal-chic at the 2016 Met Gala in a form-fitting dress from none other than H&M.

BEST: Kylie Jenner pulled out all the stops for her first ever Met Gala appearance. In true Kardashian fashion the teen arrived at the event wearing an over-the-top design from Balmain.

WORST: Jennifer Connelly hit the Met Gala red carpet wearing a confusing combination of combat boots and flowy Louis Vuitton dress.

BEST: Zoe Saldana wowed in Dolce and Gabanna at the 70th annual Met Ball.

WORST: The ever-fashionable Kerry Washington totally missed the mark at the 2016 Met Gala sporting purple hair and a sheer lace Marc Jacobs gown (which, of course, showcased her growing baby bump). She paired the look with patterned gloves which only created further confusion.

BEST: While this isn't Sarah Jessica Parker’s most outstanding Met Gala look, it's certainly not her worst. The former “Sex in the City” star arrived on the carpet in this pirate-inspired look with Andy Cohen — her sharp-dressed date year after year — on her arm.

WORST: Nicole Kidman arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, sporting a bedazzled, but underwhelming look from Alexander McQueen.

BEST: Rita Ora — who may or may not be Becky with the good hair — shined at the 2016 Met Gala in a silver Vera Wang gown. The dress featured cut outs in all the right places, a feathery train and was totally on theme.

WORST: Demi Lovato took to the 2016 Met Gala red carpet in New York City sporting a custom Moschino gown designed by Jeremy Scott. The gold, black and silver gown failed to embrace the theme and fell short on the wow factor.
