Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

An early draft of the script for the new "Ninja Turtles" project has acquired, and some drastic changes have been made to everyone's favorite heroes in a half-shell. Producer Michael Bay announced in March that the film would be taking a different approach to the turtles' origin story, making them aliens as opposed to mutants, but the differences don't stop there.

"It's half-good and half absolutely horrible," wrote Latino Review in their critique of the early draft of the "Turtles" script. "The first act-and-a-half delivering what Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans want: awesome Turtle action and wisecracks. What comes after, well, it's Midichlorian-level nonsense."

Midichlorian is a reference to the "Star Wars" prequel trilogy, which has been criticized by fans for bastardizing elements of the saga with a poor backstory. The same thing may happen when "Ninja Turtle" fanatics find out that the four brothers are from an alternate dimension and part of a prophecy, along with Casey Jones and April O'Neil being 18-year-old exes, and Shredder being Colonel Schrader.

Comic Alliance reported that the TMNT Blog posted a review of the script they claim to have read. Though the post has been deleted from the blog, Comic Alliance posted an unforgiving quote from the article.

"The script sucked. Plain and simple. It's not just the "turtle being aliens" thing that made it terrible: the dialog sucked, the staging sucked, changing Casey and April into 18 year old teenaged idiots sucked," the TMNT Blog post allegedly read. "All in all, it would make for a very terrible movie, whether or not you liked the turtles in the first place."

The main criticism from the TMNT blog is apparently that Casey Jones takes up much more screen time than the titular Turtles. This offers a new perspective on issues with the upcoming film.

Latino Review is saying that the first half of the film is fine, and even true to older "Ninja Turtles" films and television, and that things get bad when the four ninjas are brought into another dimension where they apparently come from. The TMNT blog is saying that the issue is Casey Jones hogging the spotlight.

Regardless of what fans feel about the draft, the "Turtles" reboot won't be featuring this exact script. The film won't even be released into theaters until 2014, after the fan backlash earlier this year encouraged the script to be redone.

There are no reports on whether alternative dimensions and sci-fi covert government projects will be included in the final draft at this time. Bay did encourage fans to "chill out" on message boards when it was announced the ninjas would be aliens this time around, so it might be a factor that sticks.

"This script is being developed by two very smart writers, with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles." Bay said in an interview with Latino Review. "They care very much about making this film for the fans. Everyone on this team cares about the fans. Just give them a chance."
