Michael Bublé’s Wife Luisana Lopilato Makes English Movie Debut In ‘Fair Market Value’ At Bentonville Film Festival
Argentinian actress Luisana Lopilato, wife of singer Michael Bublé, will appear in “Fair Market Value,” her first English-language feature film. While Lopilato is a huge star in her native country, South America and Europe, Geena Davis’ Bentonville Film Festival will be the first time Lopilato graces the silver screen in the U.S.
Lopilato was ecstatic that “Fair Market Value" was accepted as one of the 18 narratives for the second annual Bentonville Film Festival, an Arkansas event that features films that showcase women and diverse voices in media.
“When I told her we got into the Bentonville Film Festival, she was thrilled!” Judy San Roman, who wrote the story and produced the romantic comedy, told International Business Times in an exclusive interview Wednesday. “Luisana said she's having the time of her life, enjoying her growing family, and working on quality films.” Lopilato, 28, gave birth to her second son, Elias, in January. The couple also shares another son, Noah.
It was Lopilato’s “brains and beauty” that made her a perfect choice for the role of Kendall, a real estate agent from Miami who tries to make it big in the suburbs of New York. Lopilato’s heritage as a Latina also made her a shoo-in for the "hilarious" comedy, for which director Kevin Arbouet also wrote the screenplay.
“Her performance will empower us as women and Latinas,” San Roman, who also identifies as a Latina, explained. “Lu gives us another woman to be proud of collectively for the community. Traditionally, [Latinas are] pretty typecast, but she’s breaking down barriers. Her performance here will energize other great Latina actresses to take their talent to a different level.”
Even though “Fair Market Value” is Lopilato’s debut in an English-language film, it won’t be her last. She signed on to do a second film with San Roman called “Rich Girl, Rich Boy.” The new flick is slated to begin filming this summer. San Roman described her new character, Paloma, as “someone with the innocence of a girl next door, but is also a go-getter.”
“Fair Market Value" showcases the talent of “That 70s Show” actress Debra Jo Rupp, "Daredevil" star Royce Johnson, Broadway's "American Psycho" actor Drew Moerlein and Julia Duffy of Bob Newhart's sitcom, "Newhart." It will premiere at the Bentonville Film Festival in Arkansas, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. EDT.
