The 2021 regular season of the NFL officially kicked off Thursday with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers facing off with the Dallas Cowboys at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. While the game was enough to send fans into a frenzy, it was Williams’ performance of the National Anthem that created the loudest buzz, with the video of her amazing rendition going viral on social media.
Clips of her performance made the rounds online shortly after the season opener, with fans and celebrities praising her for her exceptional voice. Even former star wide receiver Chad Johnson couldn’t help but commend Williams, tweeting, “Michelle killed the National Anthem.”
Bill O’Reilly also enjoyed the performance, describing it as “excellent.” “Excellent rendition of the National Anthem by Michelle Williams in Tampa,” he wrote on Twitter. “Inspiring. Great to see that!”
The performance did not only leave celebrities in awe, but left fans pleading for a “Destiny’s Child” reunion. “I need a Destiny’s Child reunion,” one fan wrote. “Uhm, can we petition for a Destiny’s Child reunion?” another wrote.
“Michelle Williams singing this anthem is the kickoff for a Destiny’s Child reunion. Remember I said this,” wrote another fan before adding “#NFL.”
In her new book, “Checking In: How Getting Real About Depression Saved My Life -- And Can Save Yours,” Williams had said she would love to have a reunion with Beyonce and Kelly Rowland, and make more music together.
“Now, I would be lying if I said I wish we weren’t still together,” she wrote. “I don’t know if I want to do another 60-city tour. We ain’t 25 anymore, you feel me? But I am going to just put this out in the atmosphere: B, Kelly, if you’re reading, we could always cut a short album, maybe do a mini tour. Popeyes on me!”
