‘The Mick’ Star Thomas Barbusca Reveals What Drew Him To The FOX Sitcom
Thomas Barbusca revealed the reasons why he auditioned for the role of Chip on “The Mick.”
In a recent interview with Pop-Culturalist, Barbusca said that he had a couple of offers from other shows when “The Mick” creators Dave and John Chernin reached out to him and asked him to try out for the FOX comedy series. And because he found the script amazing, he decided not to pass up the opportunity to appear on the show.
“I had a couple other offers for shows but ‘The Mick’ was definitely the best one hands down,” Barbusca said. “The script was the best.”
Barbusca is a fan of the FX series “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” which stars “The Mick” lead actress Kaitlin Olson. Apparently, that was also a deal-breaker for the young actor to audition for the network sitcom.
“Everybody behind it was awesome,” Barbusca said of “The Mick.” “‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is one of my favorite shows of all time. It was really cool.”
Prior to landing the role of Chip, Barbusca has already appeared on several popular TV series including ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” Netflix’s “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp,” FX’s “American Horror Story: Hotel” and AMC’s “Preacher.” But he told Pop-Culturalist that “The Mick’s” Chip is pretty much his favorite role so far.
“I love Chip. He’s funny. He’s got a good heart. It’s cool playing that,” Barbusca said.
In a guest blog post for Entertainment Weekly, the Chernin brothers revealed that Barbusca was their first choice to play Chip. “One day, we both came into work and said, ‘I’ve got it, I found Chip. He plays Peter Pan in this GEICO commercial and he’s hilarious.’ ‘No way. There’s this kid in the new ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ episodes who crushes every scene he’s in. I promise he’s better,’” they recalled. “When we realized we were talking about the same kid, we rushed to get Tommy in for an audition before he booked something else.”
An all-new episode of “The Mick” airs on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 8: 30 p.m. EST on FOX. Check out the synopsis for Season 1, episode 6, titled “The Snitch,” below:
“After Chip gets roped into a scandal, Sabrina (Sofia Black-D’Elia) leads a School Honor Board trial against him, where he must choose between snitching on his teammates or taking the fall. Meanwhile, Alba (Carla Jimenez) dents the family Bugatti, with Ben (Jack Stanton) as a witness.”
