Microsoft is gearing up to introduce the successor of the 2-in-1 tablet Surface Pro 3, dubbed the Surface Pro 4, whose release date has reportedly been set for October. Thanks to the improved pen/stylus integration and the fine-tuned keyboard dock, the Surface series of tablets is marketed as a business-centric device that can double as a regular tablet slate for entertainment.

Improved Processor

While the Surface Pro 3 comes powered by the fourth-generation Haswell chipset, the upcoming Surface Pro 4 is expected to feature Intel's fifth-generation "Skylake" processors with Core i3, i5 and i7 configurations. This chipset is guaranteed to give faster performance and improve the overall efficiency of the device, Business News Daily reported.

It is worth noting that the predecessor Surface Pro 3 has apparently been criticized for overheating issues. But the new Skylake processor will reportedly not face any such issues.

Prolonged Battery Life

One of the complaints of the Surface Pro 3 tablet is that the slate does not feature a battery that stands out. The device was reportedly able to provide up to 7 hours and 27 minutes in Business News Daily’s custom battery life test. In comparison, the 13-inch Apple MacBook Air was able to churn out 12 hours and 20 minutes time in the custom test.

Taking a cue, Microsoft has apparently working on improving the not-so-impressive battery life via the Surface Pro 4. Thanks to the housed Skylake processor, the slate is guaranteed to pack in some extra hours. The upcoming slate will also reportedly pack a bigger battery unit.

Feature Rich Windows 10

Microsoft’s Windows 10 is also likely to be part of the Surface Pro 4 tablet. The Windows 10 features include separate tablet and desktop modes. According to the report by Business News Daily, when the 2-in-1 tablet is docked to a keyboard, the device will automatically switch to the desktop mode. Once the device gets undocked, the option of switching to the tablet mode reportedly crops up. This mode apparently features full-screen apps and a touch-friendly user interface.

To top it off, the long-awaited multitasking feature is also apparently part of the operating system. Speaking of other OEMs, Samsung offers multiple window option on the Android-run Galaxy handsets and tablets, whereas Apple is expected to allow two apps to run side-by-side on the new iOS 9.

Improved Stylus

Business News Daily report said that the upcoming slate is believed to feature an N-Trig stylus, which will reportedly provide never-before-seen pressure sensitivity. In addition, the Windows 10 will apparently provide brand new ways to utilize the pen.

For instance, Microsoft's latest Edge Web browser features built-in inking capabilities. This means, a Pro 4 user can capture a screenshot of a document, annotate it with the help of the stylus and can save it to the cloud or share it at any time.

In addition, there is also an improved text-recognition tool feature in Windows 10. When a user writes in text format using the stylus, the tablet will apparently convert it to digital text in a jiffy.
