Microsoft’s iPhone X Fold Rival To Feature Magnetic Enclosure, 360-Degree Hinge

Microsoft is currently working on Centaurus foldable phone which could rival Apple’s iPhone X Fold. The upcoming device would have its own unique take on how the folding works for this foldable device. The new Microsoft patents hints a potential to use magnetic enclosures and even go for a 360-degree hinge.

According to Microsoft’s patents, the company has designs for the two features for a foldable device. So far, none of Microsoft’s rivals have yet to approach making foldable devices this way. In order to compete with the leading foldable device makers, namely Samsung and Huawei, other companies like Microsoft has to rely on a different way to make these devices.

The magnetic enclosure patent works on both of the foldable device’s screen and allows the device to metallic objects. Potentially, Microsoft’s Centaurus could be a great device to have for more customizable experience as it could be attached as long as its magnetic enclosures find something metallic.

Meanwhile, the 360-degree hinge would allow the foldable device to have a more stable way to flip the screen forward and backward. This allows the device to be more durable as the design offers flexibility options with the rigid design.

While Microsoft seems ready to make a foldable device, the company has yet to announce more release details about the Centaurus. Most reports have confirmed the existence of the project but barely official details about the device.
