  • Wilder said Tyson doesn't want to praise him in public

A former heavyweight champ said that Mike Tyson still wants to fight and would definitely KO Deontay Wilder in his prime.

Shannon Briggs was a former two-time world champion who has been famous for excessively shouting out what became his well-known catchphrase – “Let’s go Champ.” Last year, Briggs stated that he plans to make a comeback in pro boxing. And just recently, he was asked if he would ever want to face Tyson inside the ring. Briggs was quick to answer “NO” before revealing what “Iron Mike” told him in their recent meeting.

According to Briggs, his recent catch-up with Tyson went “great” and the 53-year-old legend personally told him that he still wants to fight.

“No, no, that’s my boy. I love him as my big bro,” Briggs told EsNews when asked if he would want to fight Tyson.

“But he said he still wants to fight though. He said he still wants to fight!,” Briggs revealed.

When asked to predict who would win if a prime Tyson takes on a prime Wilder, Briggs replied “Tyson” with conviction.

“(Mike) Tyson will win! (Are) you crazy?,” Briggs said about Mike Tyson vs. Deontay Wilder.

The former champ continued by saying every fighter who has prepared well during training camp, “loses everything out of fear” as soon as they face Tyson inside the ring.

“Before you go in the ring with Mike Tyson, you lose everything you win in the training camp out of fear!,” Briggs said.

The prime Tyson-Wilder fight predictions generated buzz shortly after Wilder knocked out Luis Ortiz in November. Wilder claimed that Tyson sung his praises at ringside during his rematch with Ortiz but is reluctant to express his admiration public, Metro reported.

“I had some people sitting by Mike [at my fight]. Mike gave me some praises, which I wish he would have said in public,” Wilder told TMZ.

“Behind closed doors is cute and s***, but out in public?! Just express yourself. I don’t know what the deal is with the old generation, new generation. Like, the old is the past, bro. Let it go,” Wilder added.

Apparently, this wasn’t the first time Wilder took a dig at “Iron Mike.” Back in 2018, Wilder turned heads when he told TMZ Sports he would beat the 1986 version of Tyson. Wilder’s claim sparked fire among boxing legends including Lennox Lewis, who fought Tyson in the past.

When Tyson heard about Wilder’s bold prediction, “The Baddest Man on the Planet” quickly shut it down by saying "I don't think so."
