New details have emerged about the postponed wedding between young actors Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth. Tumblr

First, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth decided to postpone their wedding. Then, Cyrus was spotted out without her engagement ring, sparking rumors that the young couple split up.

However, sources close to the star state that she is “still engaged,” E! News reports.

Hemsworth, 23, proposed to Cyrus, 20, last May with a 3.5-carat Neil Lane diamond ring. They began dating in 2009 after co-starring in the film “The Last Song.”

But there recently were rumors of cheating, as “Mad Men” star January Jones was photographed with Hemsworth in the back seat of an SUV at the Oscars on Feb. 24.

"They live together; the wedding is not off," the source added. "You can't postpone a wedding that never had a date in the first place. Their plan all along was to wait a couple of years before even thinking about a date.”

Yet the Australian actor’s family seems unsure if the wedding will even happen. “I don’t know,” his sister-in-law Elsa Pataky told the most recent Life & Style issue. “If they get married, it would be nice to go [to their wedding].”

The pair has also been spending quite a bit of time apart lately. Cyrus partied all night recently with rapper-producer Pharell Williams for his 40th birthday in Miami, while Hemsworth spent time alone in Los Angeles.

People close to Cyrus are optimistic though. A second insider told E! News that the two "are finding things hard right now, but Miley is hopeful it will get worked out."
