Miley Cyrus' Self-Love Track 'Flowers' Becomes Her First Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 Debut
Miley Cyrus' latest track "Flowers" has become her first-ever song to debut at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100.
The disco-inspired track, with its lyrics on loving oneself after a painful breakup, is part of her upcoming "Endless Summer Vacation" album, which will be released on March 10.
"Flowers," which interestingly came out on her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth's birthday on Jan. 13, is her second No. 1 song on the chart. Her 2013 single, "Wrecking Ball," debuted at No. 50 and then climbed to No. 1 spot. It remained there for three weeks.
The song's music video now has more than 103 million views.
"We were good/Kind of dream that can't be sold/We were right 'til we weren't/Built a home and watched it burn," Cyrus sings in the video as she walks along a narrow bridge, clad in a sexy gold ensemble.
"I didn't want to leave/I didn't want to lie/Started to cry but then remembered I/I can buy myself flowers/Talk to myself for hours/See things you don't understand," she continued while dancing in an outdoor setting.
"Flowers" is also No. 1 on the Streaming Songs chart, Billboard said. The single also became the most-streamed song in a seven-day period in Spotify history. "Flowers" recorded 53 million streams and 34 million radio airplay impressions this week, according to data from Luminate, which compiles information for Billboard charts.
The energetic single and Cyrus' new album were teased on billboards in major U.S. cities prior to their release. The song's release date was also teased during Cyrus' New Year's Eve special on NBC.
Cyrus thanked her fans for catapulting her song to No. 1 on the prestigious chart.
"Thankful that Flowers is Number 1 around the world. This song is dedicated to my fans & the steadfast self-love I wish for each of you. Forever grateful, Miley," she tweeted Tuesday, alongside a video that showed her dancing in her swimwear beside a pool.
Apart from the U.S., the track reportedly was at No. 1 in Belgium, Canada, China, Ireland, New Zealand, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland and the U.K.
Cyrus and Hemsworth got married in 2018 but the latter filed for divorce in August 2019. Cyrus is now in a relationship with 24-year-old drummer Maxx Morando, while Hemsworth is dating model Gabriella Brooks.
