Miranda Lambert-Blake Shelton Update: Was ‘Over You’ Singer Physically Abusive Toward Ex-Husband?
While most people suspected it was country singer Blake Shelton’s wandering eye that caused the divorce from ex-wife Miranda Lambert, the “Over You” singer’s fiery temper might have been the catalyst for their split. The story comes from the National Enquirer, a tabloid known to publish outrageous stories, but apparently Lambert was physically abusive toward Shelton.
People in their inner circle were familiar with their blowouts. “The fights were awkward and embarrassing for everyone around them,” an insider told the National Enquirer Thursday, according to Radar Online. “It was a regular occurrence for Miranda to get very drunk and hit Blake.”
Lambert would become violent when she caught her then-husband flirting with other women. “Miranda would drunkenly yell at him, ‘If you ever do that again, I’ll kill you,'” the source claimed.
Even though Lambert, 31, and Shelton, 39, were considered the king and queen of country music by many of their fans, they were “a match made in hell,” one insider said. After four years of marriage, Shelton refused to be her “punching bag” any longer, the anonymous person added.
The former couple announced their breakup July 6 in a joint statement. Shelton and Lambert said this was not what they had “envisioned” as a couple and asked for their privacy. “It is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately,” they said.
Of course, their divorce has been tabloid gold, with Shelton threatening to sue In Touch magazine after it claimed he had an affair with fellow country singer Cady Groves. “The Voice” coach lawyered up and wants the story -- where Groves supposedly gave an interview-- retracted, TMZ reported.
It’s not the first time Groves spoke out. Hours after Shelton and Lambert announced their split, she took to her Twitter page to tweet about a broken heart. This led many people to speculate she was writing about Shelton.
