Miranda Lambert On Media Attention Around Her Split From Blake Shelton: 'It’s Not Nice'
Miranda Lambert "wasn’t prepared" for the kind of attention her split from Blake Shelton garnered seven years ago. In a recent conversation with CBS Sunday Morning, the country music superstar admitted it was very overwhelming back then.
“I wasn't prepared for that. Well, I don't think anybody is. It’s not nice sometimes, but I think you’ve got to take it with a grain of salt, and know that I am a singer-songwriter, so luckily, I can tell my whole truth.” said the singer, 38, about the attention she receives from the media, according to ET Canada.
"I will not lie in my music," she added.
When she was told she looked a lot happier than before, she said, "I've also grown up, and I've learned a lot about myself. And I think, at some point, you just start to settle into who you are, and I think that's why you feel that peace coming from me. Because I feel at peace with myself."
The country singers tied the knot in 2011 after dating for six years. However, the couple called it quits in 2015, just after four years of their marriage.
“This is not the future we envisioned. And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends, and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter,” the couple said in a statement, reports People.
This came as a shock to many since both of them remained tight-lipped about the split until the announcement. However, the pair weathered rumors of relationship troubles for years, which Shelton once addressed in a 2013 interview with People.
“(I tell Miranda), ‘I have nothing to hide from you,’” he said at the time, noting he even let Lambert go through his phone.
“That’s always been our policy: ‘Here’s my phone. Go through it.’ That’s really the kind of trust we have There are no secrets. (I’ll say), ‘Go dig through my drawers or my computer if you feel like you need to.’ And that’s been a really good thing because I don’t want her to ever have any doubts.”
Lambert too spoke about their marriage at the time and how they made it work.
“Marriage is hard, and it’s awesome, and you should make a huge deal of it. We always try to be together, I wouldn’t want to be on opposite ends of the country on our anniversary! That time is sacred,” she told People back in 2014.
Since their divorce, Shelton went on to date and marry singer Gwen Stefani in 2021, while Lambert tied the knot with Brendan McLoughlin, a cop with the New York Police Department.
