Miss Universe 2021: Here Are The Prizes Past Winners Took Home

The 69th Miss Universe pageant has just concluded and Andrea Meza of Mexico was crowned the new Miss Universe 2020. Aside from the glory and prestige, winners take home a prize package that is worth millions of dollars too. Here’s what past winners have won.

Miss Universe is the biggest pageant in the world, with over 500 million viewers each year. But its extravagance doesn’t end with the live show, the winners also receive prizes and perks fit for a true queen.

Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi wore a brand new Mouawad Crown during her reign. Also known as the Power of Unity Crown, it is crafted in 18-karat gold with over 1,700 diamonds and a 62.82 carat Golden canary Diamond in the center. It is reportedly worth $5 million, Esquire Philippines noted.

As for the 2018 winner, Catriona Gray, Miss Philippines wore a Mikimoto & Co. Ltd.-designed phoenix crown made of yellow and white gold worth $250,000.

Aside from the crown, past and current winners also get to enjoy a lavish lifestyle in New York City. Winners live in a luxurious New York apartment, with all living expenses covered.

All Miss Universe winners have a team of assistants and makeup artists to make sure they look and feel their best. They also receive a free supply of makeup and beauty products, shoes, clothes and jewelry during their reign. Tunzi enjoyed free items from sponsors like Sherri Hill and OP makeup, while Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach enjoyed pampering from Chi Haircare and a shoe wardrobe from Chinese Laundry Shoes.

Winners also enjoy traveling the world for free to represent sponsors and charitable partners. Food and hotel accommodation are included, and they have full access to exclusive events, parties, premieres and castings.

Wurtzbach also received a one-year scholarship from the New York Film Academy College of Visual Performing Arts, Business Insider noted.

If these perks aren’t enough, Bustle reported in 2015 that Miss Universe winners also receive a six-figure salary.

As for Miss Universe 2020, Meza will enjoy a seven-day cruise from Carnival Cruise Lines. It’s still unclear what other prizes she will be enjoying in the next 12 months.
