Missing 6-Year-Old Girl's Decapitated, Mutilated Body Found In Forested Area

Two people were detained by the police in India in connection with the death of a 6-year-old girl, whose decapitated corpse was found in a forested area.

The girl went missing on June 12 from near her home in a village in the eastern state of Odisha. According to the police, the girl was decapitated and her body parts were disposed of in the forest.

The girl was playing outside her house in Dhundugadia village when she disappeared. Her family and the police then launched a search for the girl, according to the Daily Pioneer.

"We have intensified the search with the help of sniffer dogs. All the water bodies in the village have been searched. Information has been passed on to neighboring police stations and other districts to be on the lookout," the police had said earlier this week, Daily Pioneer reported. “All angles are being probed, including whether she is with any relative or was attacked by a wild animal."

On Wednesday, the police recovered the decomposed body, while the head was found in a different part of the forest. The village where the incident took place is known as Dhundugadi, which is a tribal-dominated and densely forested region.

Two persons living in the area were detained, the police sources told Sambad English. A senior police officer, identified as SP Siddharth Kataria, said other details about the case would be released after a preliminary investigation.

Media reports said the two accused allegedly used to show obscene videos to the girl on their mobile phones. However, the police are yet to confirm this.

Last month, the body of a 6-year-old girl, who was allegedly kidnapped, was found near a pond in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The police said the victim had injury marks on her neck and eyes. The victim's family alleged one of their neighbors abducted the girl and allegedly raped her before dumping her body. Authorities said the girl was sleeping next to her family inside their home when she was abducted. The girl's father named his neighbor, who already has a criminal history, as a suspect. The suspect was arrested as the police continued their probe into the horrific attack.
