Atlanta police asked for the public’s help Friday in their search for a schizophrenic man who’s been missing for nearly a week.
Mitchell Lambert, 58, was last reportedly seen on Sunday at O’Hern House, an assisted living facility in Atlanta for homeless adults those who suffers from mental illness. However, no one knows when or how he managed to get out of the home.
Police said O’Hern staff called around 3:30 p.m. to report Lambert missing.
“The department’s K-9 unit and other officers responded to the scene to assist the responding officer and investigators in locating Mitchell but were unsuccessful,” an Atlanta Police Department spokesperson told reporters.
Police described Lambert as an African American man suffering from paranoid schizophrenia. He reportedly stands 6-feet and weighs 160 pounds, with brown eyes and short black hair. Officers did not have a description of the clothes he was last seen wearing.
A statewide Mattie’s Call alert was issued Thursday because of Lambert’s reported mental condition.
Mattie’s Call is an emergency alert reserved for missing person cases involving the elderly or disabled. Established by the Georgia General Assembly in 2006, the criteria to issue a Mattie’s Call alert are:
- When local law enforcement believe an elderly or disabled person is missing and in immediate danger from bodily injury or death
- Investigators eliminate alternate scenarios in the missing person case
- There is sufficient information to inform the public
- The missing person was entered into the National Crime Information Center database
- Local law enforcement issuing the alert must contact statewide law enforcement agencies and media
