Missing Kentucky Mom Savannah Spurlock Update: David Sparks' Court Date Faces Another Postponement
In August 2019, David Sparks was formally charged in the death of Savannah Spurlock by a Garrard County grand jury. After an initial postponement, Sparks was due back in court this month. However, his court date has yet again been pushed back.
On Jan. 4, 2019, Savannah Spurlock was last seen leaving The Other Bar in Lexington, Kentucky. Following her disappearance, an extensive six-week investigation took place in order to locate the mother of four, who was last seen leaving the establishment with Sparks and two other men.
Prior to the murder charge, Sparks had also been charged with tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse after a tip helped them locate her body that had been buried in an "unnatural position beneath the ground."
According to the Courier Journal, Sparks was due back in court on Friday, but the appearance has now been moved to an undetermined date. This follows other postponements that have hindered the trial moving forward, with the most recent being in January. Previously, Sparks' legal team asked for more time to review the evidence. It is unclear if the same reasoning is behind the newest postponment.
Various pieces of evidence that were recovered throughout the search efforts then led authorities to ultimately charge Sparks with Spurlock's murder, including "a bloody smudge on Sparks' bedroom closet door and a gray accent rug buried with Spurlock's remains that is believed to have come from Sparks' bedroom."
After hearing the news of the most recent delay, Spurlock's family spoke out about the path forward in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
"We remain positive and unwavering, knowing justice is coming," they said, adding the hashtag #TimeandPatienceinJusticeforSavannah.
At this time, Sparks remains at the Lincoln County Regional Jail on a $500,000 bond.
