  • Lina Khil and her family are reportedly refugees from Afghanistan
  • Police are searching each unit of the 300-apartment complex
  • Officers are also trying to identify everyone who was at the playground

Police have intensified their search for a three-year-old girl who vanished while playing at a playground in Texas.

Lina Sadar Khil was last seen at 9400 block of Fredericksburg Road in San Antonio around 5 p.m. local time (6 p.m. ET) on Monday.

The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) is "sparing no assets or resources" and searching every unit and car at the Villas Del Cabo complex where Khil was last seen, Police Chief William McManus said in a news conference Tuesday morning, reported KSAT.

McManus added that the child was at a playground with her mother just before she disappeared. The woman left her daughter for a short time and when she came back, the girl was missing.

Though it was unclear how long the mother was away, McManus said other adults with their children were present at the playground at the time. The child's parents are cooperating in the investigation. An Amber Alert was issued after the family reported the child missing around 7.15 p.m.

The officers are searching by foot and air and are going to each of the 300 apartments in the complex. They have also asked for FBI assistance.

"Officers are also searching for video, checking cars and dumpsters, and recording license plates due to the suspicious nature of the disappearance," he added.

"We will continue this until, hopefully, we find Khil but we are not stopping," McManus said. "This will be continuous. We've got a command line set up and we're continuing to do this for the long haul if that's necessary."

The officers are also trying to identify those who were at the playground when Khil disappeared.

A flyer distributed by police says Khil is four feet tall and weighs 55 pounds. She had her shoulder-length hair in a ponytail. She was wearing a black jacket, a red dress and black shoes when she disappeared.

Police believe the child may be in grave or immediate danger.

Khil's family members are reportedly Afghanistan refugees. Reports said there was a bit of a language barrier between officers and the girl's mother. So, the SAPD sergeants brought an interpreter to help with the communication.

Officers have also urged anybody with information about the girl to contact SAPD Missing Persons Unit at 210-207-7660.
