A missing 19-year-old woman from the Venezuelan state of Aragua was found dead inside her freezer late last month, and she appeared to have been bound and have suffered from several stab wounds, police said.
The victim, identified as Ana Gabriela Medina Blanco, was found inside her freezer on July 29 in a fetal position with her hands tied and her head between her legs. Her body had been stabbed up to 50 times with a screwdriver, the New York Post reported.
"The body had no clothes and had penetrating puncture wounds. [The suspect] murdered this person and put her in the freezer," a spokesman for Venezuela's Cuerpo de Investigaciones Científicas, Penales y Criminalísticas police agency was quoted as saying by local newspaper El Siglo.
Blanco's unnamed former partner, who was also the father of her 4-year-old son, discovered the victim's body when he entered her residence located along Ciuded Bendita's 7th Street to look for a document, according to the outlet.
The father noticed a stench coming from the house and discovered the origin had been Blanco's decomposing body in the kitchen, which prompted him to call police.
Neighbors reportedly claimed that Blanco had been missing since February of this year, but they did not report her disappearance because she was allegedly known to frequently visit the Venezuelan capital of Caracas, which was just right beside her state.
"Although they did not see her, no one filed a complaint with the police bodies in the region," the police spokesman said.
Police have reportedly started an investigation into the incident.
"[I]t is important that the police discover the girl's murderer... This is a nightmare," one of Blanco's 7th Street neighbors was quoted as saying by El Siglo.
Authorities are now trying to track down Blanco's boyfriend, who was identified as Josue, according to The New York Post report. He was described by neighbors as "very jealous and abusive."
A similar incident happened earlier this year in Brazil when a 15-year-old teenage boy was found dead inside his grandmother's freezer.
The body of Jose Rosa was discovered by his 20-year-old cousin, Carlos Rodrigues, inside the freezer in his grandmother's Vila Adelina home on Jan. 11.
Rodrigues claimed he suspected something was wrong when he saw the freezer in the back garden as it was not connected to a power source and had some blood around it.
Police said there were no obvious signs of violence, but they noted that the teenage victim was not alone during the time of the incident as there were several chairs placed in the garden.
