Paramount postponed the “Mission: Impossible” sequel and shared new release dates for other films.

Paramount has shared a list of new release dates for its upcoming movies. Tom Cruise’s “Mission: Impossible 7” is among the films that have been postponed, Variety reported.

The seventh installment of “Mission: Impossible,” which was set to hit theaters on July 23, 2021, will now premiere four months later on Nov. 19, 2021. Meanwhile, its eighth entry was also moved from Aug. 5, 2022 to Nov. 4, 2022.

Cruise had started filming in Venice, Italy. However, just like other movies that were in production, it was forced to halt due to the coronavirus pandemic. Italy is among the coutnries that have been hit hard by COVID-19, and filming has been indefinitely paused, so it would likely not be completed in time for its original release date.

Christopher McQuarrie will be helming the two upcoming “Mission: Impossible” movies. McQuarrie also directed “Rogue Nation” in 2015 and “Fallout” in 2018.

Cruise’s “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” was the most commercially successful film of the series. It received positive reviews and earned over $790 million at the global box office.

Aside from Cruise’s upcoming spy series, Paramount also announced new release dates for Chris Pratt’s “The Tomorrow War” (July 23, 2021) and “Paw Patrol” (Aug. 20, 2021).

Meanwhile, Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” was also pushed back due to the pandemic. The superhero flick was initially set for release on June 25, 2021, but it’s now set to hit theaters in October 2021.

DC is also giving “The Flash” a new release date by moving it a month earlier from July 1, 2022 to June 3, 2022. Meanwhile, “Shazam 2!” was moved further from April 1, 2022 to Nov. 4 of the same year.

Disney’s live-action adaptation of “Mulan” will premiere on July 24. On the other hand, Scarlett Johansson’s “Black Widow” will be released on Nov. 6.

According to previous reports, Disney was losing thousands of dollars daily due to the production shutdown. It’s unclear if the losses will be covered by insurance.
