Missouri Boy Opens Fire At Home After Finding Gun Near Bed, Injures Himself And Mother
A mother and her child were shot and injured when the young boy found a gun and opened fire inside their home on the 4000 block of Peck Street in north St. Louis near Fairground Park in Missouri.
According to Anthony Bell, Ward 3 committeeman for the St. Louis Democratic Central Committee, during the June 9 incident, the child found the gun on or near the bed the duo was lying on.
The boy fired shots, hitting his mother in the buttocks. The child also suffered injuries to his leg and foot. His injuries are believed to be self-inflicted.
The mother and child were rushed to a nearby hospital. No updates have been revealed about their current condition.
The identities of the victims have not been revealed. But according to reports, the woman is believed to be in her 20’s and the young boy is about 4 years old.
It is still unclear as to who the gun belonged to. The investigation is ongoing and no further details were available at the time of this writing.
According to the reports, the home where the shooting occurred is across the street from the home which witnessed a shooting incident where 3-year-old McKenzie Murphy was shot and killed.
Authorities have released few details about the May 14 shooting. It is still unclear as to whether the child found a gun in the home and accidentally shot himself or if someone else fired the weapon.
In a similar incident reported from Jones County, Georgia, 28-year-old Jason Fowler was shot to death by his 2-year-old son. Fowler was on the phone talking to someone while he was shot. He suffered a gunshot wound to his back while his toddler son accidentally triggered the gun that he was playing with. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The investigation revealed that the gun belonged to Fowler.
In another incident, 3-year-old Bryson Skinner died due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound with a gun that he found in the house. An investigation was initiated, the investigators, suspecting an abuse, narrowed down on a family member of the victim, identified as 19-year-old William Skinner, and his girlfriend, 22-year-old Valerie Faidley. They were taken into custody.
