A seasoned MMA legend fired shots at Floyd Mayweather by saying the undefeated champ will not fight anybody in UFC but his own grandmother to protect his reputation.
Frank Shamrock is not only an MMA legend. Aside from being the younger brother of WWE and UFC icon Ken Shamrock, Frank has also competed in numerous mainstream fight promotions. And now that Mayweather is reportedly eyeing an MMA debut, Shamrock commented on the matter and said that “Money” is only capable of beating his own grandmother inside the octagon.
In a rare interview with Elie Seckbach of EsNews, the 47-year-old middleweight fighter stated that he doesn’t think Mayweather will ever fight in the UFC and risk his flawless record.
“He’s not gonna fight in an octagon. Cause all he gotta do is boxing. And if he does, he’s gonna fight his grandmother cause he’s never gonna risk (his record). He’s too smart,” Shamrock said.
Shamrock also believes that Mayweather has done a great job selling his fights and picking his opponents. In the process, he ultimately became the undisputed boxing champ who will always do what he does best – maintain his undefeated record.
Last month, Shamrock former rival and another MMA icon Tito Ortiz also commented on Mayweather’s return. However, Ortiz thinks that Mayweahter can definitely beat anybody despite his age. He even predicted that the returning champ is way above his rival Manny Pacquiao.
“I like Mayweather. He’s just too damn slick,” Ortiz said when asked who would win in Mayweather vs. Pacquiao rematch.
UFC president Dana White just provided an update on Mayweather’s possible UFC debut.
According to White, he and Mayweather already had a deal during the Clippers vs. Celtics game. The UFC boss also pointed out that he’s “not just a UFC guy anymore” suggesting that he could be involved in Mayweather’s next boxing match as well.
"He and I both think that we can add value to what each other does, and we could do something together. Both of us together is more powerful than both of us not together,” White said.
“I don’t know what we’re gonna do yet. We’re gonna see how a lot of things play out in both sports. I’m not just a UFC guy anymore," White added.
Meanwhile, Mayweather seems to start promoting his return as he recently held an autograph signing. In the said event, Mayweather dissed Pacquiao by putting a cross over his face when he signed a fan’s Mayweather vs. Pacquiao memorabilia.
