  • Kevin Belingon looks to end his three-fight losing streak against Kwon Won Il at ONE: Winter Warriors II
  • His last fight against John Lineker saw him lose via knockout for the first time in his career
  • Team Lakay will be having three other fighters on the December card

Former bantamweight king Kevin Belingon is ready to stop his three-fight losing streak when he faces Kwon Won II of South Korea at ONE: Winter Warriors II.

In a virtual media roundtable, the International Business Times was able to ask “The Silencer” on how he prepared for this fight.

“After my fight with [John] Lineker, I took a break for a few weeks and we were waiting for a scheduled fight but it took some time. I’ll be facing a boxer in Kwon Won Il and we’re getting ready on how to counter some of his strikes, especially that he trained here in the Philippines," Belingon confidently remarked.

"We know how well our boxing coaching is here in the country so, my camp and I are training really well for that to pick up the win. I’m 100 percent ready and confident that I’ll get the win this time around."

Belingon is yet to experience a victory since he defeated bantamweight rival Bibiano Fernandes for the right to call himself the undisputed champion of the division at ONE: Heart of the Lion in November 2018.

He has fought Fernandes a total of four times in ONE Championship, with three losses and one victory to his name.

His most recent fight against John Lineker in October 2020 was the first knockout loss in his career after he absorbed an uppercut from the former UFC standout in the second round of their fight, forcing him to cover up on the ground.

Lineker had a massive advantage over Belingon in the striking department, and it was the first time in a long time that the Team Lakay member did not look like he was about to dominate on the feet.

Similar to Belingon, Kwon is a knockout artist with seven victories to his name via this method and has won his last two fights via TKO.

With full knowledge of Kwon’s boxing ability that he honed in the Philippines, Belingon’s game plan against the South Korean may include a few submission attempts, should the fight ever go to the ground.

The 34-year-old Belingon also revealed that this fight is a must-win for him if he is to keep his No. 2 ranking in the bantamweight division.

Three other Team Lakay members will be joining the Filipino veteran on the ONE: Winter Warriors II card set for December 17.
