‘Modern Family’ Star Sarah Hyland Clarifies ‘Bisexual’ Comment About Haley Dunphy

Sarah Hyland recently clarified her comments about her “Modern Family” character, Haley Dunphy, being bisexual.

Earlier this week, a fan asked the actress if it’s possible for Haley to be bisexual since she seemed attracted to an unnamed female character in the earlier episodes from Season 9. On Wednesday, the actress confirmed that her character is bisexual, but said that she doesn’t know what the writers of the hit ABC sitcom would say.

On Friday, Hyland took to social media to explain what she meant by her previous confirmation. On her Twitter account, the 26-year-old actress said that her response to the fan that asked her the question was simply based on her personal opinion.

According to People, ABC has renewed “Modern Family” until Season 10, which means that there are plenty of chances for the writers to explore a bisexual storyline for the character. But until today, Haley has only dated men. She was previously involved with Dylan (Reid Ewing) and Andy (Adam DeVine).

In real life, Hyland is being linked to “The Bachelor” alum Wells Adams. A source told the same publication that Hyland and Adams have been friends for quite some time and are hanging out. However, they are not yet officially a couple. “They’re flirty,” the source said.

On Halloween, they even dressed up as Eleven and Dustin from Netflix’s “Stranger Things.” On her Instagram account, Hyland shared an adorable photo of herself with Adams in their costumes.

Hyland was previously in a relationship with “Shadowhunters” star Dominic Sherwood. They were together for over two years, but decided to call it quits in August. A source told People that the split was mutual, and Hyland and Sherwood are still friends. “They aren’t dating anymore, but they both have mutual respect for one another and remain friends,” the source said.

Another source told Entertainment Tonight, that the estranged couple’s relationship just naturally ran its course. Hyland and Sherwood first met on the set of “Vampire Academy” in 2014. She also guest-starred in Freeform’s “Shadowhunters” Season 2 last summer.

Two months later, Hyland confirmed that she’s still single via a tweet.
