‘Modern Family’ Star Sarah Hyland Splits From ‘Shadowhunters’ Actor Dominic Sherwood
“Modern Family” star Sarah Hyland and “Shadowhunters” actor Dominic Sherwood have decided to call it quits.
A source confirmed the news to People, but clarified that the two broke up amicably. “They aren’t dating anymore, but they both have mutual respect for one another and remain friends,” the source said.
Hyland last posted a photo on Instagram of herself and her ex-boyfriend in April. In the snap, taken two years earlier when the pair attended Coachella together, Sherwood is carrying Hyland, while the latter looks down on him and holds his face.
Sherwood’s last photo of Hyland on his social media account was also uploaded around the same time as Hyland’s. In his picture, the Freeform actor simply promoted Hyland’s appearance in the Season 8 finale of “Modern Family.” The actor also expressed how much pride he felt that Hyland learned the ukulele for her role in the hit sitcom.
Meanwhile, another source told Entertainment Tonight that the ex-couple’s relationship just naturally ran its course. Hyland and Sherwood first met each other on the set of “Vampire Academy” in 2014, and they made their relationship public in March 2015. In February, they celebrated their two-year anniversary with a series of sweet photos.
A few weeks after their special day, Sherwood, who plays the role of Jace in “Shadowhunters,” gushed over his then-girlfriend. “Sarah makes me want to be a better version of myself. That’s what I love most about her. She inspires me to be the best version of me,” he told Entertainment Tonight.
Hyland acknowledged the fact that she tells Sherwood the same thing all the time. “I say this on a regular basis. It’s exactly what he said, which sounds like a cop out, but I say it all the time,” she said.
Previously, Hyland was in a five-year relationship with actor Matt Prokop, but they split in 2014. Months later, Hyland filed for a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend after he allegedly choked her and threatened to burn down her house and hurt her dog. But despite that terrible time in her life, Hyland tried to stay optimistic.
“People have to go through things in order to become the person that they are today. And that’s that,” she told Entertainment Tonight.
