Modern Warfare 2 S1 Reloaded - Chimera
The Chimera in Modern Warfare 2 comes with a built-in suppressor and subsonic ammunition Activision

KEY POINTS

  • The Chimera can be unlocked in any of the game modes
  • The gun requires two player kills across 15 multiplayer matches or a successful DMZ run with weapon equipped
  • Players can quit multiplayer matches early and still make progress toward the weapon's challenge

The Chimera is the latest addition to "Modern Warfare 2's" arsenal that arrived together with the Season 1 Reloaded update.

It may lack the range of the STB 556, but it compensates for this with its blistering fire rate and surprising lethality in close quarters. "Modern Warfare 2's" take on the Honey Badger is faithful to its purpose as a short-range stealth weapon, and players will be able to get their hands on it relatively painlessly.

How to get the Chimera

Unlocking this gun is simple, if not potentially time-consuming.

The first option is to either drop down into Al-Mazrah in the DMZ game mode and either steal a Chimera from an enemy Operator or grab one in the new Building 21 area. Players will need to successfully extract from the match with the gun in their inventory for it to get unlocked for their account.

Alternatively, the Chimera can be unlocked by playing 15 multiplayer matches and getting at least two kills with assault rifles. Though 15 games might sound like a lot, players won't actually need to finish all of them. Simply get two assault rifle kills, leave the match and queue again for another round.

The latter option is great for anyone who's rushing to get the gun. However, be mindful of how it might impact other players in multiplayer lobbies. The Shipment-only playlist might be a good place to unlock the Chimera since games on this map tend to end quickly and nobody ever takes Shipment matches seriously.

MW2 - Sales Record
Modern Warfare 2 broke sales records by being the fastest selling Call of Duty game since it released in 2022 Activision

Is the Chimera any good?

Simply put, yes, but only within its intended range. The Chimera is designed for aggressive playstyles. Its high rate-of-fire lends itself well to close-ranged duels, but this also means players need to be accurate with their shots if they want to take down more than one enemy per magazine.

The gun uses .300 BLK Subsonic rounds that fly much slower than regular ammunition. These can chew targets up in CQB, but they will struggle to hit anything in mid-long-ranged fights. This ammo type also comes with the added benefit of hiding kill icons and bullet tracers, which can open up opportunities for some sneaky plays.
