Mom Arrested For Hitting 3-Year-Old Non-Verbal Girl With Belt For Messing Up Sheets

A Texas mother has been arrested for allegedly battering her 3-year-old non-verbal daughter for messing up sheets.

Briana McAlister, 27, from Wichita Falls, was arrested Wednesday on charges of injuring a child after she reportedly beat her daughter with a belt in June, reported Times Record News.

The incident came to light after the child's daycare worker noticed the suspicious injuries on the kid's face and legs, and reported the incident to the police. When the staff at the daycare asked the victim's sister about the injuries, she said their mother got furious after the victim messed up the bedsheets and hit her with a belt.

According to medical examination, the child suffered several long linear bruises to her bottom, lower back and thigh, consistent with hitting with a belt. The child also had injuries on her eyes, according to the arrest records.

During the police interview, McAlister initially claimed that the child got injured after she got shoved into a table while playing rough with the sister. However, she later admitted that she often gets angry and blacked out while dealing with the child, Texoma's Homepage reported.

The police then questioned McAlister's live-in boyfriend who told them that he never got involved in disciplining the child. He also said he had removed McAlister from “the situation” when she got mad while disciplining the child.

"These bruises are highly concerning for physical punishment with an object. Physical punishment should not leave marks and bruises. These bruises are highly concerning for child physical abuse," a doctor said after examining the photos submitted by Child Protective Services.

A CPS worker told the police that she had worked on a past case involving McAlister and the child and showed the officers pictures of the bruising on the victim’s legs and back.

The court has set McAlister's bond at $25,000.

Last month, a Florida mother was accused of killing her special needs daughter after the girl broke and threw coloring crayons in her hospital room while the latter was hospitalized for an infection. Jessica Bortle was arrested after she admitted to murdering her 14-year-old daughter by slamming a hospital bed on the child when she got furious with the child who messed up the room.
