A 22-year-old woman has been accused of brutally assaulting her 18-month-old son on multiple occasions and filming the attacks on her cell phone.

The horrific abuse drew outrage from the public Saturday when one of the videos recorded by the woman, identified as Tulasi from the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, went viral on social media.

The heart-wrenching clip reportedly showed Tulasi beating the toddler repeatedly. The child could then be seen bleeding profusely from his nose and mouth while the woman continued with the assault.

The police have already booked Tulasi on charges of abusing a child, voluntarily causing hurt and assault with intent to dishonor a person, reported The Hindu.

Tulasi was married to 37-year-old G. Vadivelan from Mottur village in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu for five years. They have two children -- the 18-month-old victim and a 4-year-old child.

The police believe the assault took place sometime in February while Tulasi was staying at her parents' house after the couple filed for divorce.

The investigators determined the woman had assaulted the child on several occasions and recorded videos of the incidents on her phone.

When a family member accidentally discovered the videos of the attacks from her device, they informed the infant's father who then took the children from their mother. He also got in touch with the police to lodge a complaint.

In one of the videos found on her phone, Tulasi could be seen hammering the child's leg with her fist. Another clip showed the child with red patches on his back from the brutal beatings, India Today reported.

According to Gopalakrishnan, the victim's grandfather, they were not aware of the abuse. However, they knew Tulasi had taken the child to a hospital a month ago to undergo treatment.

Earlier this month, a Florida mother was accused of killing her special needs daughter while the girl was hospitalized for an infection. The police arrested 34-year-old Jessica Bortle for murdering her 14-year-old daughter after she admitted to slamming a hospital table against the girl's abdomen for throwing and breaking the crayons in her hospital room. According to an autopsy report, the teen's liver was "ripped open due to blunt force trauma." Bortle said she had leaned her weight on the table after slamming it against the child, causing the child grievous injuries.
