“Money Heist” Season 5 is set to premiere on Netflix this Friday. The fifth and final season of the widely acclaimed Spanish series will be released in two parts, each featuring five episodes.

The show, also known as “La Casa de Papel,” first aired on the streaming network in 2017 and became an international hit. It currently holds the record of the most-watched non-English series on Netflix. Its fourth season, which premiered in April 2020, broke all the milestones set by its earlier seasons, having racked up over 65 million views worldwide as of August 2021.

Netflix officially acknowledged that the series would return for a fifth installment in August 2020. However, the streaming giant also confirmed that the next installment of the hit series would be its last. At the time, series creator Alexa Pina said in a statement, “We’ve spent almost a year thinking about how to break up the band. How to put the Professor on the ropes. How to get into situations that are irreversible for many characters. The result is the fifth part of La Casa de Papel. The war reaches its most extreme and savage levels, but it is also the most epic and exciting season.”

As the crime drama series comes to an end, many are wondering how its creators will wrap up the series considering the events in season 4. On Aug. 2, theories about season 5 grew rife as Netflix dropped the first trailer for season 5, volume 1, which featured some Easter eggs and came with the caption, “Surrendering is not an option.”

The trailer featured the resistance anthem, “Bella Ciao,” playing during the credits. Those fighting Berlin and Sergio could also be heard singing before the credits, making fans wonder if Alicia would be part of the group. There are also speculations that Alicia could be Berlin’s wife, Tatiana, although the character was played by a different actress in the flashbacks.

Money Heist” Season 5, Volume 1 will premiere globally on Netflix on Sept. 3 at 3 p.m. ET. Meanwhile, Season 5, Volume 2 will be available for streaming on Dec. 3.
