'Monster Hunter World: Iceborne' Beta Goes Live; New Gameplay Features Can Be Practiced
The “Monster Hunter World: Iceborne” beta is now playable. Similar to previous betas, players will be able to try out the new features introduced in this expansion of the “Monster Hunter World” series. Sony has also put out a guide that shows what you can do in the beta.
As seen on the official guide, eight tips were given out about the new content of “Monster Hunter World: Iceborne.” Most of the tips guide the players in trying out the new areas, monsters and gameplay mechanics. The whole beta will be around until the first day of July.
One of the main features introduced in the Iceborne expansion are cold areas. The snow in these areas aren’t for show as the cold temperature will actually affect the character’s performance in battle. The cold will affect the player and will increase their stamina consumption up to twice. Previous “Monster Hunter” entries had arctic, snowy areas but weren’t found on the main “Monster Hunter World” game.
Adding to the cold areas, players are offered three missions of varying difficulties for the beta. The first easy mission would pit players against one of the earliest monsters fought in the original “Monster Hunter World,” the Great Jagras. The intermediate mission would pit against a giant moose-like lizard called the Barbaro which is gigantic lizard creature covered with scales, fur, and a giant antler.
Lastly, the hardest mission on the beta would be a mission against the fan-favorite Tigrex. This monster was first introduced in the PSP entries of “Monster Hunter” and is known for its blue and orange scales arranged like tiger stripes. While it’s unable to fly, Tigrex is known to be a tough monster to take down as it makes quick work of unfortunate hunters it touches when angry.
While new monsters have been introduced, the hunters are also given new tools to use in this entry. The Clutch Claw is introduced in the Iceborne expansion as a weapon accessible to all main weapons. With this weapon, players can easily latch to the face of monsters and land a solid blow that’ll leave staggering toward certain directions. While the tool has other uses, players can rely on this tool to push monsters toward traps and hazards that can be beneficial for the hunt.
The “Monster Hunter World Iceborne” Beta will be available from June 21 to 24 at 3 a.m. PDT for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Meanwhile, its public beta will be available on June 28 until July 1. Preloading the beta will be available two days prior the start date.
