'The Morning Show' Season 3 Update: Is Julianna Margulies Returning?
KEY POINTS
- Julianna Margulies will reprise her role as Laura Peterson for Season 3
- The actress will reportedly have a major recurring role in the new installment
- "Mad Men" alum Jon Hamm will also join the Apple TV+ drama series
"The Morning Show" fans will see Julianna Margulies reprise her role as UBA news anchor Laura Peterson when the series returns for its third season.
Production on the new season is underway, and Variety confirmed that Margulies would be returning to the set of the star-studded drama. Laura made such a commotion in the previous season after being revealed as a love interest of Reese Witherspoon's Bradley Jackson and a former rival of Jennifer Aniston's Alex Levy.
Laura and Bradley started dating even before they got to co-anchor the titular "Morning Show" in the series together. And with Margulies returning in a major recurring role in the new season, fans will see more of Laura's interaction with Bradley and her rival-turned-civil friend Alex.
"I find her fascinating," Margulies told Variety of her role as Laura in June. "I want to know about her childhood: When did she first know she was gay? How did her parents react? Has she ever been in a long-term relationship? What does she love to do when she's not working? Does she even want a long-term relationship? Is she capable of that?"
The actress continued, "I want to know if she's really fallen for Bradley, or if it's just another fling? I would love to see her and Alex strike up a friendship of some kind — can they work through their past and move on and have a genuine friendship?"
The announcement of Margulies' return for Season 3 comes after the recent casting of "Mad Men" alum Jon Hamm as Paul Marks, a corporate titan who will show interest in UBA. Deadline has learned that Marks will be out to pul Alex, Bradley and Billy Crudup's Cory Ellison into his powerful orbit.
Charlotte Stoudt will showrun and executive produce "The Morning Show" Season 3. Mimi Leder will direct and executive produce the new season at the same time. Other exec producers include Michael Ellenberg (through Media Res), Aniston and Kristin Hahn (through Echo Films) and Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter (through Hello Sunshine).
The second season recently made headlines after bagging several Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Witherspoon, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Crudup and Outstanding Guest Actress for Marcia Gay Harden, as per Collider.
"The Morning Show" also stars Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Bel Powley, Janina Gavankar, Karen Pittman, Tom Irwin and Desean Terry.
