Mother Choked 2-Month-Old Baby With Cord; Criminal Charges Filed Against Her
A 2-month-old baby was found dead with a cord wrapped around his neck in Michigan. The infant's mother was taken into custody and was facing several criminal charges.
Last week, Michigan State Police troopers arrived at a home in Shepherd after receiving a report that a child was hurt. MSP Special 1st Lt. Michelle Robinson told MLive that they could not confirm who initially called 911.
Police rushed the child to an area hospital. He was treated and later released, local media said. Robinson did not reveal the child was released into whose custody.
Police believe the mother of the child was responsible for the infant's condition. A warrant was issued for the mother – identified as 21-year-old Skyler A. Warner. She was arrested on Feb. 4 and the following day, she appeared in Isabella County District Court for arraignment.
Warner was charged with three counts of second-degree child abuse and single counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, including strangulation and domestic violence.
The Central Michigan University Police Department, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, MMR Ambulance and Mid-Michigan Medical Center were also involved in the probe. Police said additional details would be released later.
In a recent incident in Sydney, a woman was charged with murder after her 8-week-old daughter drowned in a bathtub. The incident took place last week when the infant's father came home and found the baby lying unresponsive in the bathtub.
Emergency services were called to the scene and the baby was rushed to the Children's Hospital at Westmead. But she died at the hospital. Investigators said the infant was likely in the bathtub for as long as two hours before she was found by her father.
The 35-year-old mother was taken into police custody and was facing a murder charge. Her next appearance in the Mount Druitt Local Court was scheduled for March 31.
