Mother of four hacked to death by husband armed with a machete in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, on Thursday (June 11) afternoon. A deputy then shot the man during a confrontation with police.

According to a news release from the Virginia State Police, the emergency dispatchers could hear gunshots during a 911 call made to report the woman’s killing at around 4:30 p.m. They do not reveal who made the call.

When the responding officers arrived at the home at 8601 Mount Cross Road, they found a man armed with a weapon inside the house. The officers tried to calm him down. But the man, they have not disclosed his identity, showed no signs of cooperation. According to the state police, a deputy had to shoot him to get the situation under control.

Once inside the home, the officers found the woman unresponsive. They pronounced her dead at the scene. Details about her identity were not available.

The man suffered serious injuries from the gunshot, then an airlift took him to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. No updates were available about his current condition.

According to a relative, there were previous incidents of domestic violence occurring at the home.

“He threatened her. She tried to get a restraining order, but because the house is under both of their names, they couldn’t give her the restraining order for him to leave,” the relative told WDBJ7.

The family member, who wished to remain anonymous, said the man slew his wife when three of the victim’s four children aged 11,15, and 20 were present at their home.

According to reports, the children are still trying to process what happened. The children are now staying at the relative’s home.

“She cared for not just her family but for other people too. If she knew that there was somebody that didn’t have clothes or were struggling she would go out of her way to help,” said the relative.

It is still unclear as to the charges the suspect will face once he is out of the hospital.

The investigation is ongoing and no further details were available at the time of this writing.
