In a horrific incident, a mother killed her 3-year-old daughter before ending her own life. The woman's husband was found dead in a forest Thursday.

The couple was living in a rented house in Koida in the eastern Indian state of Odisha. They reportedly had a heated argument over some issue Tuesday night. Following this, their landlord filed a police complaint against the husband, identified only by his first name Prahllad.

On Wednesday morning, Prahllad left his home and did not return. His wife, who was at home with their baby, also did not respond to the door when a neighbor came to visit. Police arrived at their home Thursday after neighbors alerted them, Daily Pioneer reported.

Officials entered the home and found the woman and her baby girl dead. Preliminary investigation revealed that the mother killed her baby before hanging herself to death. A separate police team found Prahllad hanging from a tree in a forest Thursday. Local media reports said that before killing himself, Prahllad had sent a selfie with a rope around his neck to his relatives.

Police also recovered a suicide note from the house blaming the landlord for the three deaths. No arrests have been made so far in the case.

In February, a woman in India allegedly beheaded her 13-month-old baby before trying to kill herself. The 23-year-old woman, identified only as Jitendri, was sleeping with her baby and her three sisters-in-law in the same room on the day of the incident. The sisters-in-law woke up after hearing someone jumping off the roof. As the family began searching for Jitendri and her son, they reached the roof and found the decapitated body of the child.

Later, they found the woman unconscious in another room and rushed her to a hospital but she succumbed. The motive behind the killing remains unknown.
