A woman in South Korea was arrested after she threw her newborn baby out of a window minutes after giving birth to the child in a public restroom, media reports said Wednesday. The incident took place on Feb. 5 in the city of Gwangju.

The 23-year-old new mother was at the scene of the incident along with a man, who did "not prevent the death of the newborn," local media News 1 reported. However, police did not charge the man, whose relationship with the woman remains unclear.

Authorities said the woman notified her acquaintance as she began to go into labor at an Internet café in Gwangju.

"I think the baby is coming out. I don't know what to do," the defendant reportedly wrote to the man, to which he replied: "Do what you think is best."

The incident came to light when a witness in a building opposite the café reported seeing a lot of blood on the bathroom wall. Police arrived at the scene and rushed the woman to the hospital.

In a recent incident in South Carolina, a newborn baby was found alive inside a plastic bag in Marshville. Police arrived at a home after receiving a tip about a newborn child left around. During the search of the house, police found the baby inside a plastic bag that was hidden under leaves. The baby boy had the placenta still attached.
