Update 9:15 p.m. EDT: The New Orleans Police Department is still looking for three suspects believed to be responsible for the attack.

“Obviously, these are unusual circumstances,” NOPD Supt. Ronal Serpas told WDSU. “It appears that these two or three people just for a reason unknown to us started shooting at towards or in the crowd. It was over in just a matter of seconds. Police were everywhere.”

Police believe two different types of weapons may have been involved in the shooting.

“Maybe two different types of weapons,” Serpas said. “Immediately after the shots were fired, our officers saw three people running away.”

Update 8:23 p.m. EDT: The number of shooting victims has risen to 19, according to Reuters. Ten men, seven woman, a boy and a girl were all injured, the news agency reported, citing New Orleans Police Department representative Garry Flot.

5:19 p.m. EDT: At least 12 people were shot at a Mother’s Day parade in New Orleans Sunday. No fatalities were reported, but at least four victims require surgery.

About 300 people gathered for a second-line Mother’s Day parade in the city’s 7th Ward when several shots rang out and at least a dozen people were shot, according to Fox 8 News in New Orleans.

The youngest victim in the shooting is believed to be a 10-year-old girl who may have been grazed by a bullet.

“The shots just started ringing out, and everybody just started running, and the next thing I heard, 10-15 people got shot” shortly after 1 p.m. CDT (2 p.m. EDT), one eyewitness told WDSU in New Orleans.

At least four victims are reportedly undergoing surgery at local hospitals.

The New Orleans Police Department is seeking three suspects related to the shooting. Neither their identities nor the motives have been reported as of this time.
