  • Motorola has announced the cheapest 5G-capable smartphone yet
  • The Motorola One 5G will cost less than $500, reports said
  • The new smartphone features a unique rear camera setup that mobile photographers will like

Motorola has announced that it is releasing a midrange smartphone with support for 5G connectivity, the new Motorola One 5G.

The new Motorola One 5G is Motorola's latest entry in the midrange smartphone race. It boasts of specs and features that one can expect from a midranger. But the new offering adds a few nice touches that will entice Android fans as well as those looking for a cheap device that's loaded with features, headlined by 5G connectivity and a unique rear camera setup.

Per Motorola, the device comes powered by a Snapdragon 765 processor, which means it can connect to 5G networks where available. Motorola will release an mmWave variant for Verizon, The Verge noted.

CNet noted that the company will also release a sub-6GHz variant for AT&T.

The chip is backed by 4GB of RAM, which seems common among many midrangers. It can be noted, however, that there are many midrange smartphones that come with at least 6GB of RAM nowadays.

The Motorola One 5G also comes with 128GB of internal storage, expandable via the use of a microSD card.

In front lies a 6.7-inch CinemaVision FHD+ display with 21:9 aspect ratio. Motorola said this is designed for those who love to watch movies on the go. The display has two punch holes for two front-facing cameras – a 16MP quad pixel camera and an ultra-wide sensor for those group selfies.

At the back of the handset is the aforementioned unique rear camera setup comprised of four cameras.

The setup sounds like the usual midrange smartphone camera, which includes a 48MP main camera that can shoot quad-pixel images at 12MP sizes, an 8MP 118-degree ultrawide sensor and a 2MP depth sensor that'll ensure portrait shots focus on the subject, not the background.

What makes this setup unique is the 5MP macro lens that's accompanied by a ring flash around the sensor. This was designed to allow users to take close-ups without having to worry about the device casting a shadow on the subject. The ring light will illuminate the subject, doing away with smartphone- or user-cast shadows and making the photo look as good as it can be.

Motorola hasn't published the list price yet, but it has been confirmed by various sites that the Motorola One 5G will cost less than $500, making it the cheapest 5G smartphone in the market at the moment.
