Is Motorola Droid Bionic delay aimed at matching Apple iPhone 5?
Apple's iPhone 5 and Motorola Droid Bionic are expected to be launched anytime in the third quarter. And both these smartphones have been delayed citing further modifications.
The Droid Bionic designed by Motorola will go to Verizon and work on the 4G LTE network. Meanwhile, iPhone 5's rumored specifications are popping up all over the web.
Motorola Droid Bionic was introduced at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show along with the Motorola Atrix and Motorola Xoom tablet. The preliminary specifications of the phone showed it featuring 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra dual core processor, but now there is a rumor that the smartphone is going to feature a dual core OMAP processor instead.
Meanwhile, iPhone 5 rumors show that the device is expected to come pre-loaded with:
- iOS 5 enriched by 200 new features
- Edge-to-edge display
- Speech recognition capabilities
- Improved flash unit for camera
- Strong gaming capabilities supported by multi-core A5 processor and Imagination Technologies’ PowerVR Series6 mobile graphics processing architecture
- 8-megapixel camera
- 1080p Full HD videos
- Panoramic photo capabilities
- Bigger screen between 4 and 5-inches
- New design
- White model
- Just like the iPad 2, sixty percent possibility that the iPhone 5 dock connector could be used, using an adapter, HDMI output with 1080p HD support
- With the new iOS 5, the existing voice controls could be enhanced and new ones added
- Higher capacity battery than present Li-Po 1420mAh to support iOS 5
- NFC technology
- Apple increased the RAM memory to 512 MB RAM in iPhone 4 from iPhone 3GS which had 256 MB eDRAM, also iPhone 3G had 128 MB eDRAM before iPhone 3GS came out. Hence, speculation of a 1 GB RAM is a possibility to counter Android smartphones.
- As iPhone 4 is already featured in Verizon network, possibility of 4G LTE support cannot be counted out
- Facebook app is expected to come to iPad, and iPhone 5 is expected to feature iPad’s OS.
- The iPhone 5 may be launched in the first week of September, and few websites predicted the release date to be September 7.
Apple’s delay in launching iPhone 5 could be a deliberate attempt to buy time to spruce up its next phone offering in order to meet the new benchmark set by Android phones like Samsung Galaxy S2, HTC Sensation 4G and Motorola’s Photon 4G.
Even Motorola and Verizon are tight lipped about the release of Droid Bionic, but rumors indicate that the American Independence Day, July 4 could be the date. However, Motorola officially stated sometime ago that the device had been delayed due to upgrades. In fact, the previous specifications of Motorola Droid Bionic seem very similar to recently released Motorola Droid X2. Meanwhile, the Droid-Life has shown what Motorola has in store for 4G LTE users.
The upcoming Droid Bionic upgrades are as follows:
- Will run Motoblur 3D which boasts interface improvements to compete with HTC Sense
- Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread
- Improved locked screen
- 4.5-inch qHD touchscreen
The upgraded specifications shows that Motorola is upping its Droid Bionic to make it Verizon’s best, biggest and fastest smartphone.
