Motorola Moto X4 Leak: European Pricing Hints At Possible US$400 Price Tag

Motorola is expected to officially announce the Moto X4 soon, but that’s not stopping leaks from surfacing online. Notable leaker Roland Quandt claims that the upcoming Moto X4 will cost €350 in Europe.

That pricing is apparently for the 32GB variant of the Moto X4, as Quandt said on his Twitter page. That €350 price tag roughly converts to $409.85 in the United States. It’s important to point out that 2015’s Moto X Pure Edition started at $399 in the U.S., and it’s possible that Motorola is planning to slap the same price tag on the Moto X4.

Quandt also admitted that the pricing for the Moto X4 is lower than he originally thought. To be fair, the Moto X4 is expected to be a mid-range handset, but it also comes with a dual-camera setup which could have significantly affected the pricing of the device. The handset might possibly be cheaper in the U.S. if there is reduction in Europe's taxes. Phone Arena speculates that the X4 could even cost for as low as US$350.

With that kind of pricing, it seems like the Moto X4 might become a real serious competitor in the mid-range segment and could even be a cheaper alternative to those expensive flagship phones.

Earlier this month, leaker Evan Blass shared what appeared to be an official render for the Moto X4. It shows that the handset has received a significant design change making it look a lot like the recently announced Moto Z2 Force.

The Moto X4 is also the first in the X series to come with a premium aluminum body, metal frame and glass panels up front and back. The device’s display also appears to be even better due to its edge-to-edge design.

If the Moto X4 arrives with a $399 price tag, it would also have a pretty good spec-to-price ratio. The most recent Geekbench listing shows that the Moto X4 might arrive with the formidable mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor clocked at 2.21GHz.

A previous GFXBench listing showed that the Moto X4 would arrive with a Snapdragon 630, while Blass stated the same thing on his report for VentureBeat. Either of the chipsets would work well on the X4 since it's also expected to arrive with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

The Moto X4 also comes with a 3,000mAh battery, which should be enough to power its 1080 full HD display. The dual cameras on the back are both said to have 12-megapixel sensors, while the front-facing shooter has an 8-megapixel sensor. The device is also expected to run Android 7.1.1 Nougat straight out of the box.

Since Motorola is moving forward with a more premium design for its mid-range Moto X4, the device might arrive with an IP68 water- and dust-resistant rating.

There’s no word yet on when Motorola plans to launch the Moto X4, but it’s expected to be announced soon. Some may have been disappointed that the company didn’t announce the mid-range device during Motorola’s New York event this week, but fans were treated with the flagship Moto Z2 Force at the time.
