Mouse House: Disney Building Planned Communities For Fans Who Can't Get Enough

Disney announced on Wednesday that it is creating a place for people who love the magic of its resorts so much, that they want to literally live in the essence at all times.

“Storyliving by Disney” will be the first ever fully Disney themed, complete community, known as “Cotino.” It will be located in the Palm Springs city of Rancho Mirage, California.

The press release states "as more and more fans look for new ways to make Disney a bigger part of their lives, The Walt Disney Company today announced plans to introduce Storyliving by Disney, vibrant new neighborhoods that are infused with the Company’s special brand of magic."

Disney says that the community will have a range of homes for people to live in including 1,900 housing units in villas, condominiums and single-family homes, along with a hotel, shopping, dining and entertainment all surrounding a 24-acre water “oasis.” The community will offer “Disney programming, entertainment and activities throughout the year,” the Storyliving website explained.

The water oasis in the middle of the community will display “the clearest turquoise waters with Crystal Lagoons technology.”

A section of the community will be designated for residents that are ages 55 and older. People who want to visit the community can purchase day passes. A club membership will also be offered which gives access to a waterfront clubhouse, a club-only beach area and recreational water activities.

“Picture an energetic community with the warmth and charm of a small town and the beauty of a resort,” said Disney Parks, Experiences and Products exec Helen Pak in a promotional video.

There are plans for multiple locations, but the Palm Springs location is the only location announced so far. Palm Springs was chosen because it was one of Walt Disney’s favorite places to visit, where he also owned property.

"The very heart of any Storyliving by Disney community rests in Disney's vision of vibrant settings and magical possibilities. Imagination and inspiration have been carefully infused into every detail to provide invigorating and rejuvenating environments and activities," the website said.
