Movie Sequels 2017: 28 Film Follow-Ups Fans Can Watch In The New Year
All of your favorite characters seem to be coming back to the big screen in 2017. There are dozens of sequels set to come out, so mark your calendars for these flicks.
“Underworld: Blood Wars” — Jan. 6 — Seline (Kate Beckinsale) is back and determined to end the war between the lycans and vampires.
“xXx 3: The Return of Xander Cage” — Jan. 20 — Xander (Vin Diesel) comes out of hiding to stop Pandora’s Box, a weapon that controls every military satellite in the world.
“Resident Evil: The Final Chapter”— Jan. 27 — Alice (Mila Jovovich) is betrayed by Albert (Shawn Roberts), who brings Umbrella together to strike against the survivors.
“John Wick: Chapter 2” — Feb. 10 — John Wick (Keanu Reeves) comes out of retirement and heads to Rome when he learns that someone is trying to take over a guild of assassins.
“Fifty Shades Darker” — Feb. 10 — Christian’s (Jamie Dornan) past comes back to haunt him right when he and Anastasia (Dakota Johnson) seem to finally be on the right track.
“Logan” — March 3 — Hugh Jackman returns for his last run as Wolverine in this flick. It takes place in 2024, after a decrease in the births of mutants, and introduces Logan to Laura (Dafne Keen). She is a young girl who was created in a project to clone Wolverine.

“T2: Trainspotting” — March 3 — Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle return for the sequel to the 1996 black comedy. Mark (McGregor) comes back to make amends with his friends.
“Smurfs: The Lost Village” — April 7 — The Smurfs find a mysterious town after a journey through the Forbidden Forest.
“The Fate of the Furious” — April 14 — The eighth “Fast and Furious” flick shows a mysterious woman bringing Dom (Vin Diesel) back into the world of crime.
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” — May 5 — Star-Lord (Peter Quill) will meet his father, Ego the Living Planet (Kurt Russell) in this Marvel movie.
“Alien: Covenant” — May 19 — The colony ship Covenant lands on what they think is an undiscovered hideaway until they meet David (Michael Fassbender), a synthetic survivor of the Prometheus expedition.
“Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul” — May 19 — Jason Ian Drucker takes over the role of Gregg in the fourth installment, which features a road trip to Greg’s grandmother’s 90th birthday party.
“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” — May 27 — Orlando Bloom returns to the franchise for this installment, which will show ghost pirates trying to kill every pirate at sea, including Capt. Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp).
“Cars 3” — June 16 — Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) might find himself in danger when he decides to compete against a new generation of cars.
“Transformers: The Last Knight” — June 23 — Michael Bay’s newest installment sets up a Bumblebee spinoff.
“Despicable Me 3” — June 30 — Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) and Lucy (voiced by Kristen Wiig) take on evil former ’80s child star Balthazar Bratt (voiced by Trey Parker).
“Amityville: The Awakening” — June 30 — Belle (Bella Thorne) and her family move into the Amityville house, and they discover it’s very haunted.
“War for the Planet of the Apes” — July 14 — A colonel (Woody Harrelson) leads a human army into a war against Caesar (Andy Serkis) and the apes.
“Annabelle 2” — Aug. 11 — The possessed doll goes after a nun (Stephanie Sigman) and orphans in this sequel.
“The Nut Job 2” — Aug. 18 — Surly (voiced by Will Arnett) and his friends have to stop plans to bulldoze their park.
“Kingsman: The Golden Circle” — Oct. 6 — Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and Merlin (Mark Strong) team up with U.S. spies.
“Blade Runner 2049” — Oct. 6 — Officer K (Ryan Gosling) finds something that leads him on a search for Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), who has been missing for 30 years.
“Insidious: Chapter 4” — Oct. 20 — No plot details have been released yet about the horror film.
“Cloverfield 2017” — Oct. 27 — This sequel focuses on a group of astronauts who have to fight to survive after a dangerous discovery.
“Saw: Legacy” — Oct. 27 — Details for the eighth installment in the franchise are still being kept sealed.
“Thor: Ragnarok” — Nov. 3 — Thor (Chris Hemsworth) searches for his father with the help of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). He’ll also find out where Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) has been hiding.
“Star Wars: Episode VIII” — Dec. 15 — The next installment will pick up right after Rey (Daisy Ridley) finds Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).
“Pitch Perfect 3” — Dec. 22 — They finished college, but they’re still singing. Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld and more will return for the third installment.
