MTV has decided to postpone the MTV Movie and TV Awards instead of doing a virtual edition.

The MTV Movie & TV Awards was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. It usually takes place in the month of June, but now it might not happen until December, Variety reported.

MTV has not announced a firm date or plan this year for the Movie & TV Awards. However, last year’s event was taped in Los Angeles on June 15 and was aired two days later. Zachary Levi hosted the event.

Insiders told Variety that MTV is hoping to bring back the telecast later in the year. Should MTV decide to skip the event this year, it would be the first time for the network to do so since its launch in 1992.

Last year, the nominations were announced on May 14. Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame” won the best movie category while “Game of Thrones” was named the best show. Lady Gaga was lauded for her performance in the film “A Star is Born.” Elisabeth Moss won a similar recognition for her performance on the TV show “The Handmaid’s Tales.”

In related news, MTV is reportedly planning to air the Video Music Awards in August at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

“We’re exploring with government officials, the medical community and key stakeholders on how to safely hold the 2020 VMAs at Barclays Center on August 30th,” an MTV spokesperson said.

“The health of everyone involved is our number one priority. Additionally, we are working on several contingency plans to bring music’s biggest night to audiences everywhere.”

Several events have been canceled due to the pandemic and many have also been postponed. Some also opted to stick to their scheduled dates but made virtual editions instead.

The 74th edition of the Tony Awards was also postponed. The event was supposed to air live on the CBS TV network on June 7, but it was pushed back.

“TONY Awards will be postponed and rescheduled at a later date. We are looking forward to celebrating broadway and our industry when it is safe to do so,” the official message from the organizers read.
