Music Label Chief John Atterberry Dies After Hollywood Shooting Rampage
John Atterberry, chief of Death Row Records, died Monday after being shot in the face by a rampaging gunman on a Hollywood street Friday morning.
Simi Singer, a spokeswoman for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, said Atterberry died at 4:51 p.m. Pacific Time.
Atterberry, 40, was known for his work with R&B singer Brandy, Jessica Simpson and the Spice Girls.
Atterberry was behind his silver Mercedes in the heart of Hollywood Friday morning when Tyler Brehm went on a random shooting rampage, which left the executive in critical condition, police said. He was immediately taken to Cedars-Sinai hospital where he had remained in a critical condition until Monday.
Brehm, 26, fired between nine to 12 shots at vehicles that were passing by before he was killed by police. A Hollywood Reporter photo editor and another man were also wounded, according to MSNBC, but Atterberry was the only one seriously injured.
The gunman's ex-girlfriend, Alicia Alligood, said she and Brehm had broken up recently. She said that their breakup might have caused Brehm's shooting rampage, but police were looking for a motive behind the attack.
She said that Brehm had been much stressed lately. He even had started taking drugs that had been given to him by an unidentified pharmaceutical salesperson, she added.
