Mysterious Yacht Death: Stewardess Rebecca Boyle's Body Found After Night Of Drinking
A British stewardess' body was found aboard a luxury yacht after spending the night celebrating England's World Cup win over Colombia, media reports said late Wednesday. The woman was identified as 32-year-old Rebecca Boyle.
Boyle was discovered dead in her cabin aboard the La Polonia, which arrived at Italian Riviera port of Imperia, on Wednesday. Boyle from Notting Hill, London, is believed to have suffered a fatal head injury after falling down the stairs after a night of drinking. However, the circumstances leading up to her death remain a mystery.
Officials said Boyle had only joined the yacht last week after being hired from a Monaco-based crewing company. On Wednesday morning, her colleagues went looking for her when she didn't show up for breakfast only to have found her lifeless.
Police are interviewing the yacht's crew and Boyle's death is being treated as unexplained.
According to U.K. tabloid the Sun, Boyle was celebrating England's victory over Colombia that had brought the team to the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup. She and her friends later got into the hot tub aboard La Polonia before Boyle reportedly returned to her cabin. It was unclear if alcohol played a part in her death. Police are awaiting autopsy result to determine the cause of death.
“We have seen the reports that she was out celebrating England's win in town but at this stage we cannot say if drink played a part because no autopsy has been carried out,” a police spokesman told the Sun. “At this stage it is to early to say and her death is being treated as unexplained. We cannot yet rule out third party involvement.”
