‘Nashville’ Season 5 Spoilers: Episode 12 Synopsis, Sneak Peek And Photos Released
Get ready, Nashies! “Nashville” Season 5 will finally return from its hiatus, and the midseason premiere will be jam-packed with drama. The episode 12 synopsis hints at the trouble coming up.
“Deacon helps Daphne with a school project, but Daphne feels unmotivated,” the synopsis reveals. Trailers for the CMT drama’s return have already revealed that Daphne (Maisy Stella) will start cutting school and hanging out with a homeless teen, Liv (Odessa Adlon). She’ll definitely be testing Deacon’s (Charles Esten) limits as a dad.
However, Liv might let Daphne have fun for the first time since Rayna’s (Connie Britton) death. Though the midseason premiere picks up three months after Rayna’s tragic passing, Daphne will still be grieving. In a clip from the episode, titled “Back in the Saddle Again,” it looks like she manages to forget her troubles with Liv, who sings the “Daria” theme song with her.
Meanwhile, Deacon is letting Maddie (Lennon Stella) do her own thing in the studio. However, Maddie will question if Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) really knows everything about music when she and the country princess disagree. “Juliette gives Maddie unsolicited advice about a song,” the summary teases. Their new partnership be off to a rocky start.

However, Juliette and Maddie aren’t going to give up quickly. Juliette feels like she has to watch out for Rayna’s daughter. “The relationship between Juliette and Maddie becomes very important,” Panettiere told CMT’s Hot 20 Countdown. “She feels like she has to be there for her and support her and her way of doing that is trying to help her to accomplish her goals and her dreams.”
Juliette will be focusing on relaunching her own career as well. Her new gospel album is out, and she was warned that her audience might not love that kind of switch. Will she be able to make a comeback or will she hit yet another roadblock in her career?
Elsewhere, “Nashville” Season 5 has to resolve that big cliffhanger with Scarlett’s (Clare Bowen) pregnancy. The singer will be figuring out who her baby daddy is. “Scarlett and Gunnar receive news about the baby,” the synopsis hints. Longtime love Gunnar (Sam Palladio) is definitely the preferred option, but it could be her director Damien (Christian Coulson) that ends up being the father.
Co-showrunner Marshall Herskovitz knows some fans are concerned about watching “Nashville” without Rayna Jaymes, but he assured viewers that there is still more story to tell. “Rayna was in some way involved in everybody’s story, so when she’s not there, that inevitably changes the dynamic, but what I was very happy to see was that each of these stories had a very strong beating heart to it even without Rayna,” he told the Hollywood Reporter. “There was plenty of story to tell and we found ourselves really engaged by these stories and really moved by them, frankly.”
The story continues when “Nashville” Season 5, episode 12 premieres Thursday at 10 p.m. EDT on CMT.
